FERNWEH Pursuits©

Here’s our jumping off point: Fernweh, is a German word, meaning “an ache for distance [sic] places; the craving for travel” (Geckos Tales Team). A sudden surge in growing curiosity has today’s youth and young adults experiencing this longing, pushing them to take action to satisfy it. According to World Youth Student and Educational Travel Confederation (WYSE Travel Confederation) as reported by Forbes’ website, research on 2012’s travel industry showed that younger generations stood for twenty percent of international travelers in 2012 (Mohn). This large population of world travelers spent a whopping $217 billion dollars on their expeditions (Mohn). Whether for cultural experiences, educational purposes, reinvention of themselves, or whatever the purpose may be - it seems to all revolve around the stretching or restoration of the mind. Traveling is no longer a past time reserved for the retired. Young and mature travelers, alike, are a new phenomenon with needs all their own. Here is where we will explore creating the means to travel, where to go, and how to best take advantage of the opportunities we create to go.

I encourage you to check out the link provided in the Forbes citation below. Our generation’s strong presence in today’s travels is quite impressive!
